Mohs 101

Mohs surgery, also known as Mohs micrographic surgery, is a precise surgical technique for removing several types of skin cancers. During Mohs surgery, layers of cancer-containing skin are progressively removed and examined until only cancer-free tissue remains. When performed by Dr. Molly Warthan, Mohs surgery offers maximum removal of cancer with minimum damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Mohs surgery is often cited as having the highest cure rate for the most common type of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma. It’s also highly effective for recurrent basal cell carcinoma and offers the highest cure rate for the cancers as well. Visit us at Warthan Dermatology, and receive the highest care from our very own Mohs surgeon, Dr. Molly Warthan.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a technique that uses beams of highly concentrated light to penetrate the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by pigment in the hair follicles and destroys the hair within the follicle. Next to Botox injections, laser hair removal is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the U.S.

Lasers are useful for removing unwanted hair from the face, leg, arm, underarm, and bikini line as well as other areas where unsightly hair is a problem. Benefits of laser hair removal include precision, speed, and predictability.  Lasers can selectively target dark, coarse hairs while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. The laser can treat an area approximately the size of a quarter every second. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute, and large areas, such as the back or legs, may take up to an hour. Ninety percent of patients have permanent hair loss after an average of three to five sessions.

If this is a treatment option you are considering, we recommend scheduling a consultation to see if this treatment will be successful for you based on the opinion of a trained and certified professional. At Warthan Dermatology, we want the best results for you!

Zeltiq Coolscuplting Event

Last Thursday, we had our 1st Zeltiq Coolsculpting event, and we are happy to report it was a success! Patients were educated on the procedure, we had a live demo taking place, and many consultations. Many patients have started slimming down using the Zeltiq treatment. We are also excited to let you know that we are only 1 of 4 offices in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to offer this treatment.

Check out Coolsculpting, this treatment has been featured on many shows including Dr. Oz. The Zeltiq treatment freezes thet fat in an unwanted area until the cellular wall is broken down. Over the next few months the fat is eliminated from your body. No needles, suction, or numbing required. Just a simple, cool way to slim down.

Our next Zeltiq Coolsculpting event is scheduled for January at Warthan Dermatology, we hope to see you then!
